sbaker5 Posted October 20, 2008 Report Share Posted October 20, 2008 This is a Dell XPS410 that's been re-formatted within the year, using Dell IT helpline person on the phone to guide me. All went well until I chanced to try a system restore to an earlier date and after restoration steps were taken and machine rebooted, informed that restoration failed. After creating several restoration points later and attempting same, all results were failed. Obviously this does not hamper normal operations, but if something was deactivated by the hard drive reformat, I'd like to reactivate the system restoration tool. It's pretty important. Do you have any more details what exactly is failing during the restoration? Does the error message give anything? Can you check the Event Viewer for more information? If they are not (for example, due to daylight saving time kicking in) System Restore won't be able to find the correct date & time.Can you make manual Restore Points? If yes, as a test, make one, then, once it's completed immediately try to restore to it. If that works, the problem may be with your clock/calendar getting out of synch over a few hours or days; if it doesn't work, it's probably a deeper system failure.Please report back.
