mrmalkovich
hey all....i have two computers.compaq presario 6000 desktop2ghz cpu, 1.99ghz, .99gb ramtoshiba tecra m2v-s310 laptop1500mhz cpu, 1.50ghz, 496mb rami recently installed outlook 07 on both, then the instant search feature that it suggested after downloading. then i indexed both computers fully. i indexed the laptop with an external drive connected to it which has about 12,000 songs on it, and that seemed to work fine. this is a drive that i unplug and replug all the time between the laptop and the desktop.not long after this both my laptop and desktop slowed to complete crawls, and it had been a long time since i reformatted my computers so i went ahead and wiped both of them and started clean. but now that i'm re-indexing the computers after the reformatting, i'm starting to wonder if the reason both computers were so slow is because they have to de-index and re-index 12,000 songs every time i unplug and re-plug that drive. i had a ton of programs and probably my fair share of trojans and viruses on both machines, so this is definitely no the only possible reason for such slow performance. but things did slow down considerably more than usual after installing outlook 07 and indexing.any thoughts? thanks in advance. Outlook 07 on an a lower spec pc may cause the pc to slow but i am not sure how much!2. Can you set the search software to not look at any external drives?Which search software are you using? Maybe worth looking at something like Copernic, i use it and i never notice it running!!Peace!
Irene
Hello mrmalkovich, welcome to the forum. :D I recently installed Office 2007, and I have also been experiencing slow running. I agree with you, that it is likely to be related to the indexing feature. So if anyone can give any advice. I would also be most grateful. P.S. I just came across THIS link, which has tips for improving Outlook 2007.
