rpe
Hello everyone, sorry if you've seen this before, but I would really welcome some guidance here. I've installed a windows xp professional in english, but wanted to use a Portuguese keyboard so that I could avoid the awkward combination keys to write the Portuguese diacritics (or the even less intuitive ALT+numbers combinations). So I bought a Portuguese keyboard and tried using it in my system. Before you suggest, I did change the regional language settings to Portuguese and the input methods to a Portuguese keyboard. It didn't work. I also downloaded the most recent driver from the keyboard provider, to no avail. The best I can get if for part of the keyboard to work. By "part" I mean that, e.g., the right shift key works but the left doesn't, or that I can get big caps versions of only the letters roughly in the middle of the keyboard...Has anyone encountered this problem and found out the solution? Should I give up and buy a mac and start learning linux instead? Thanks! RP
ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
Welcome to the Windows Forum. No, no - you don't need to switch to a Mac, just switch to the Portuguese keyboard; the keyboard shortcut for this is normally Alt+Shift. If this does not work, let's look a little bit deeper. Open Control Panel -> Regional and Language Options, tab Languages. Click on 'Details' in Text services and input languages. What do you see - can you give me a screenshot?I have a Japanese keyboard, and my Text Services and Input Languages layout looks like this
