Pause Windows Update ?

Along having a broad-band cable connection, sometime I use a GPRS modem to check emails and browser whenever I'm not at home.

The problem is that Windows Update kicks in and uses the internet to download the updated whenever I'm connected. I don't want this to happen when I'm connected with the mobile internet since it's slow and have strict traffic limits.

Is there a way to pause the update without having to turn of completely the windows updates (as I'm doing now)?

I wonder if I'm the first one to have such concern and if Microsoft is aware of this? (I have XP, how does this behaves in Vista? I read somewhere that in Vista sometimes Updated forced the computer to reboot without giving the user the change to cancel.)

Most people I know have Automatic Updates set to 'Notify me, but don't automatically download and install them.'; this way you will be notified when updates are available, but you can decide when it's convenient to download and install them.

I don't know of any other way.

What is interesting is that when I noticed that Windows Update was downloading, I set that option on. It kept downloading (since it had already started). I had to disable it in order to cancel the download.

Still, a good tip.
