HPw2007 monitor with onboard speakers

Using mobo's audio, no sound card

I want to increase my audio volume. I'm using my monitor's onboard speakers, and the volume is too low. My computer came with Sigma Tel Audio device and the speaker setup will not change from 7.1. SiSandra tells me I have another audio device, Microsoft Sound Mapper, 2 Ch. Can I switch to the MS Sound Mapper device or is that something I would want to do? I've checked all the obvious volume controls (audio properties, software volumes, media player) and they are all maxed out. The Sigma Tel Audio shows me different speaker configurations but it doesn't change (speaker settings / advanced / speaker setup). I select apply / ok, and ok on the audio properties, but when I check back it goes back to 7.1. Any advice? Is there a way to boost the normal voloume?
