andsome
First this is to have a look in Control panel/Mouse/and see if there is anything wrong with the settings. :D
ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
But it is also likely that the mouse itself is broken. Do you have a spare mouse that you can try - and see if it works better than the old IBM one?
Slyke
This sounds like a hardware problem. Is it a LASER or ball mouse?Usually the LASER mouses have problems like the one you are specifying, and the ball mouses have problems like not being as sensitive in one direction (It will move right very slow, but all other directions fine). There's not much you can do about it, except maybe take it out for dinner one night and treat it nicely :). A good mouse pad will help too. That - or replace it.
