i was wondering if it is possible to have one computer connect to the internet via another computer

and how this can be done

so basically i want this: [Computer1]---some kind of connection---[Computer2]---internet

is this possible?

please let me know

btw: I would like to know, since we cant use internet on a custom computer [for example my home computer], but we can on a school computer. I already asked the computer man in our school, but he also doesnt know. So i thought up the idea of making a computer connect to the internet via another computer.

I think this is possible, since Windows XP gives this option in the Network configuration screen [when you make a new network connection.]:

Note: The computer which is connected to the internet only has limited rights, and no access to the configuration screen. [3rd party tools might work though]. My computer ofcourse has got full rights.

So you're using XP?

On PC 1 go to Network Connections area in control panel. Right-click on the Inbound Internet Connection (It will be named something like Local Area Connection 1 or something) and click properties.

In the Advanced tab, click "Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection".

After that try the internet on Deze computer. Make sure it's getting the correct IP address (Use DHCP if possible, and to avoid potential issues, make the computers on the same subnet).

EDIT:

If you can't get to control panel, then you maybe able to do it in the registry, but I'm not sure where. You should ask the administrator of the network to do it for you, as that would be ALOT easier.
