Basically what I want to be accomplished is computers on the lan when browsing or saving files they can just navigate to the desired drive on the server computer and open or save the files. I don't want to go through any login process or authentication. Can this be accomplished with the basic use of workgroups on XP? I have tried sharing the files without using a dedicated server machine and saving and opening files takes much longer than I expected. The people who would be using this are not very computer literate so I want the access to the server machine to be as "behind the scenes" and easy to use as it can be. ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb Posted January 7, 2009 Report Share Posted January 7, 2009 Welcome to the Windows Forum.Accessing files over a network can be slow, depending on many items - network speed, server speed, network / server congestion, etc.To easily access data on other computers, use Windows Explorer, Tools, Map Network Drive, then assign a drive letter to the other computer / server.
