Evelyn
Hi there, I’ve recently set up a home network using a machine running XP and the other using Vista. I’ve downloaded and installed the XP fix so Vista can see the XP computer and turned on the network discovery function etc. in the network and sharing centre.I can access all shared file on the XP machine from the Vista machine all right and can transfer them in both directions. The issue is that I can see the public folder on the Vista machine from my XP machine, but a soon I try to access it the access is denied. I went though all the settings on both machines following Microsoft’s technet, turned off all firewalls and protection software, but cannot manage accessing the Vista machine from the xp machine. That is going on for 4 days now and I simply have run out of ideas. Any tips?

Hopefully someone in that section has some advice.
homecomputeraid
Are both computers in the same workgroup?I'm sorry I don't know the exact steps for Vista to determine the workgroup, but on XP, you can right click on My Computer and select Properties fr4om the menu. Click on the Computer Name tab, and look for the workgroup name there. The process may be similar for Vista. If they do not match, change the workgroup on one machine to match the other. Yes, the computers are in the same workgroup, I've already did set it up that way. The process in VISTA is very easy once you've clicked through all the layers in the settings. No luck then, but thanks for your reply anyway!
homecomputeraid
Do you have an account with the same username and password on both computers? Is it possible to set up such an account?
