Welcome to the Windows Forum.

You have to be a little bit more specific about what you want to achieve. Or exactly what your question is.

Hello thanks for the welcome.....

what i am trying to achieve its ..... having 10 computers, and 1 acting as a server

the server will have windows vista installed and then the rest are going to "get" that windows from the server and use it, like a thin client , Diskless tower

i dont want to install vista in the rest of the computers i want to pull it from the server hosting the OS

Pat

I don't think the OP wants to clone a Vista on 10 other boxes, I think s/he wants to run one box as a server and the rest as 'dumb terminals' , the terminals will boot from network and get a vista image from the server.

As I mentioned before you need a very strong server to run Vista's graphic interface on 10 other boxes.

I think the OP needs to provide more information- for example what are the specs on the server and what is s/he using as clients

Also - why Vista? I can't think of an operating system that is more unsuitable than Vista to run as server....

I run dumb terminals on both Linux and XP. I wouldn't recommend Vista at all

Usually dumb terminals come with some sort of software already . You can download the software for Linux from the internet , but I have never seen anything for Windows.

Are you sure you want to run a dumb server or just run a remote desktop terminal from a client ?

In a dumb terminal the client doesn't run it's own OS it boots from the network (PXE boot) and gets an OS image from the server. It doesn't need to have a hard disc at all. In remote desktop situation ,the client runs it's own OS but can connect to the server and run a session on it . XP has a built in remote desktop client . Vista might have one as well , but I'm not the right person to ask...

How can I setup a server with a vista image and have a ( let's say 5 hosts) get windows from that server? like hosting an image for the clients. what can I do?

If I understand correctly you want several clients connecting to your 'Vista Server' and see desktop, run programs etc as if they all had it installed on their computers. Right? Every Vista except 'Home Edition' has built in Remote Desktop feature. You can try switching it on and let users connect. By default both XP and Vista allow only one user at a time. Here's how you can have multiple sessions: http://remotedesktoprdp.com/Multiple-Remot...p-Sessions.aspx. Although questionable this is considered as "hack". You've been warned, use at your own risk.
