wide-load Posted January 27, 2009 Report Share Posted January 27, 2009 I have a relatively new installation of Windows XP Pro SP3, running on an AMD 64 XP 3800,with 2 GB of dual channel Ram and an Nvida 8400 GS Video card. As I was installing new applications on the system somehow my Registery got corrupted. When I boot Windows starts and get to the screen right after the Welcome screen and displays the message "Loading your personal settings" and goes no farther. The screen doesn't freeze, it just never progresses beyond that point. I reset the computer to reboot and bring it up in Safe Mode. I then reboot and it boots into Windows OK, with a message displayed as windows is coming up. "One of the files containing the System's Registery had to be recovered by use of a log or alternate copy. The recovery was successful." Windows works fine until I have to reboot and then it's the same routine all over again.After I get it up running OK I set a RESTORE point thinking that the Registery is good. However if I try to restore to that Recovery Point it doesn't help, I get the same results.I have tried to restore to the earliest Restore Point in the list but it doesn't help. Is there anything I can do to repair this corrupted Registery? I'm just about ready to reinstall Windows, but before I do I thought I'd put a question out here to see if anybody had any advice. I hate to have to redo building the system, reinstalling the Service Packs, reinstalling Office, and all the other applications on it and updating if there is some way I can salvage this installation. One I found mentions that it only happens with one user account; others can login fine. Can you try to login to another user?If, in the worst case, you need to reinstall Windows, try first a repair install - this should keep all your files and installed programs. Do it with the latest SP install disk - one that already contains SP3.But first try to fix it without reinstalling; search Google with the full message for different solutions.
