pick one of two network paths to another computer

I have multiple network paths leading between two computers, and the computer browser service is picking the one I don't want to use.

The connections are between a Win7 Desktop and an XP Pro Laptop for syncing.

#1: Desktop [Lan] > Wireless G router [Wireless] > Laptop

#2: Desktop [Lan] > Laptop

I want to always use the direct connection when possible. Both actually work. If I disable the wireless, the direct connection picks up, but as soon as I re-enable wireless it chooses that.

How can I force it to always use the direct connection?

Disconnect the laptop from the wireless permenantly.

Thanks for your reply, I've figured it out. For the record, I'll post my solution.

I'm not going to disconnect it from wireless permanently, as it's needed for internet on my laptop.

What I did to fix it was edit the hosts file on my desktop with the ip and name of my laptop and it worked great. It was a bit of trouble since I have 64bit Win7 (aka Vista sp2). This is where I figured out how to edit the hosts file: http://blog.monochrome.co.uk/2008/11/updat...comment-page-1/
