Failed Windows update dowload leads to blue screen

Hi folks-

I have a new Dell Studio laptop running Vista Home Premium 64 bit, 8G Ram, 320G hard drive. I think I've linked a recent "blue screen" issue at boot/re-boot to a Security update to IE (KB961260) that has attempted & failed to install twice. Error codes 800F0816 and 8024200D. There have also been failed attempts to install KB960544 and KB905866 which are Recommended (as opposed to Important) updates that happened at the same time. Is there a fix for this?

KB961260 is for IE8 Beta 2.

KB960544 is for Media Centre.

KB905866 is for Windows Mail (junk email filter).

All 3 are for Vista and will only work with the precise utility as listed above. You can get back to a pre-problem state using System Restore.

A good starting point if you have update problems is Microsoft's own Help & Support Center (HERE). Just type the update number into the search box and follow the links.

Another useful source is the BelArc Free Advisor (HERE) which can help you identify updates which have been downloaded but have failed to install. It also offers help on uninstalling them, as corrupted or unnecessary updates can often cause problems.
