jsmee
HiI have a bit of an issue with my Windows Explorer. Actually, two issues. Please help me! Post here to help!1) My first issue is that whenever I choose to put a folder in the Thumbnail view, it automatically puts a random image from the My Pictures folder or another picture in My Documents. I can't find a way to stop it!2) How do I make the default view in a folder in My Documents as 'Icons'? It always puts it automatically into thumbnails or folders. Please post here if you have any helpful advice. My OS is Windows XP.Many thanks in advance!James

The folder that you put into Thumbnail view does it actually contain the image that is assigned to that folder? If it does that is normal. If it doesn't do the following: Go to Start>Control Panel>Folder Options>View tab and select "Show hidden files and folders", click Apply/OK. Now open that folder and look for a thumbs.db file, right click it and delete it.2. Open your My Documents folder click View, select Icons, click File, choose Close. Do this instead of clicking the red X close on the upper right. By default Windows XP only remembers the last 400 folder settings so go to the link below and on line 2 (left column) click on "Increase Folder View Size Limit to 8000" to download a reg file. Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it and answer yes to the import prompt.http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htmTufenuf

Have followed instructions, but your help for Point 1 hasn't really changed much yet. I'll explain the issue a bit more to see if it helps...I have a folder on my PC called DigitalCam which is kinda like My Pictures, except the pics are all mine. Now, whenever I put a new picture in here, it immediately becomes the new Thumbnail folder picture for every folder elsewhere. That's in Program Files, My Documents, you name it! Can you explain why this is the case, and what I should do? I probably should have been more accurate!James

I've never come across a problem like this. Do you really need to store your pictures in that folder? Why not make a sub folder in My Pictures and name the new sub folder Personal Pics. Do you use the default Windows Picture and Fax Viewer to view your image files?Tufenuf

When the search is done delete any thumbs.db files it finds. It won't hurt anything to try it. The thumbs.db files are hidden files so make sure you select "Show hidden files and folders" in Folder Options under the View tab.Tufenuf
