tupdegrove Posted February 27, 2009 Report Share Posted February 27, 2009 Hello,There are two user accounts, AdminSteve & LimitedJerry, on a single WinXP Home machine. AdminSteve has Computer Admin rights and LimitedJerry has a Limited user account. I forget exactly how (probably somewhere in Control Panel/User Accounts) but AdminSteve has an option set to prevent LimitedJerry from seeing AdminSteve's files. The original WinXP hard drive was going bad so WinXP was installed on new HDD. Now, entire directories for AdminSteve on the original HDD are not visible using WinXP on the new HDD. For example, clicking on g:\AdminSteve\My Music (g: used to be c: before the new drive was added) says "not accessible. Access denied." Dencandy Posted February 27, 2009 Report Share Posted February 27, 2009 Welcome to the forum Tupdegrove. The Admin User needs to regain ownership of those files in order to make them accessible. It's a common problem when Windows is re-installed. Microsoft's instructions about how to do it are HERE. Follow the instructions exactly as described. It worked perfectly for me recently.By the way, you might find that those files have already been automatically transferred to another location and the access denied folders are actually empty.
