W2K_can't get full display

On an Inspiron 8000 laptop running Windows 2000 Pro, my screen won't display anything but 800 X 600 pixels in 16 colors. The standard VGA adapter is running and offers no higher res or colors in settings. I have installed the Dell Geforce2GO driver (which overwrote the same that already existed). This should be easy, but I can't find any other options to get the 1280p display that the screen is capable of.

It was usual to get with a new bought computer a disk with the OS on it and another one that had on it all the mother board necessities such as sound drivers and monitor drivers and other things which were thought necessary. To drive the screen at a level above what you are now running at I would have thought you needed this CD.......but I am not a laptop man.

Have you tried http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/ ?

After installing the Geforce2GO driver, your graphics card should show that driver, not Standard VGA.

P.S. make sure that your Inspiron does indeed have that nVidia video adapter, and not the ATI that is also offered for the Inspiron 8000 on the Dell download site.

I got the correct driver using the service tag on my first try and it installed in C:\DELL\DRIVERS\66301... 66301 being the folder the Nvidia setup wizard created for about 30 files, mostly dll's. I checked all around including Device Manager. Geforce2 GO doesn't show up anywhere.
