Jecepede
Aloha !This is to weird to actually ask but I have searched and searched and searched and........Anyway... The problem exists in my moms network, so if I get some advice don't be mad if i don't react right away,I have to drive to my moms house, no RPD there, and try it...So what the BLEEP is going on...My moms bought a new pre installed PC with Windows Vista so we formatted her old PC and installed XP.This PC is just standing in the corner with uTorrent and E-mule being busy.So far so good.I have a folder on the XP-machine called E:\Downloads and it is shared (DUH)The Vista machine has a network drive N: (\\download-bak\E-downloads)I can see this folder in the Vista machine...Still good right ? Wrong...Lets just say these folders have been made by uTorrent :E:\Downloads\Bugsbunny-adventureE:\Downloads\WatchmenE:\Downloads\Zion-treasures-of-the-wildFrom the Vista machine I double click : N:\Downloads\WatchmenAnd get the message : Access denied.I go back to the XP machine and make a 4th folder in Windows Explorer like :E:\Downloads\Bugsbunny-adventureE:\Downloads\Test-folderE:\Downloads\WatchmenE:\Downloads\Zion-treasures-of-the-wildI put some files in the folder and go back to the Vista machine. From the Vista machine I double click : N:\Downloads\Test-folder : and voila, I see the content of that folder !So what have I checked already :----------------------------------------- The two PC's are in the same domain :Leeuw- The two PC's both have a user called Gerri with the same pwd- User Gerri on the XP machines and the Vista machine is member of the Administrator group- All the files in E:\Downloads have the same owner : Gerri- I linked the N:-drive on the Vista machine using the user download-bak\Gerri and the pwd- No other users besides Gerri are connected to the XP-machine- The event and security logs stay empty, no errors like : Unknown user- I even enabled the guest on the XP machine- When I ping download-bak on the Vista machine I get the correct IP (192.168.1.100)- The Vista machine has 192.168.1.101 and the same subnet 255.255.255.0SooooooooIf ANYONE can help my poor lil' ma, I'd be much obliged...Thanks for you time !!!!Jecepede
homecomputeraid
On the Vista machine, try going to Run, and typing \\download-bak. A folder should pop up showing you all of the shared stuff on the XP machine. Try double clicking a folder you should have access to and post what happens. It doesn't sound like firewalls could be the issue here, but are firewalls enabled on either the Vista or XP machine? Jecepede
Ola ! Thanx for the answer but no dice...On the Vista machine, try going to Run, and typing \\download-bak. A folder should pop up showing you all of the shared stuff on the XP machine. Try double clicking a folder you should have access to and post what happens.I already tried that. If I directly go to \\download-bak, the folder Downloads pops up.However, I still only can see inside the folder "Test-folder".The rest of the folders still are denied for Vista,...Did the same thing with \\192.168.1.100 same results...It doesn't sound like firewalls could be the issue here, but are firewalls enabled on either the Vista or XP machine?I also tried turning of the firewall on both machines on the same time.Again it made no difference. Oh Btw, I have Avast Anti Virus on both machines...Disabling the on-demand-scan function on both machines didn't help either...CheeeeersJecepede
homecomputeraid
Do both machines have all of their Windows updates and patches?

Jecepede
Aloha !Here I am again with a small update...I still had no luck solving this problem however one thing suddenly occurred to me :I CAN make my own folders like : E:\Downloads\Test-folder : and read those using the Vista machine. Thus, I copied the folder : E:\Downloads\Bugsbunny-adventure : using the [CTRL]+[C] / [CTRL]+[V] keys. The following folders now reside in the XP machine :E:\Downloads\Bugsbunny-adventureE:\Downloads\Copy of Bugsbunny-adventureE:\Downloads\Test-folderE:\Downloads\WatchmenE:\Downloads\Zion-treasures-of-the-wildThe folders I now CAN read on the Vista machine :---E:\Downloads\Copy of Bugsbunny-adventureE:\Downloads\Test-folderThe folders I now can NOT read on the Vista machine :---E:\Downloads\Bugsbunny-adventureE:\Downloads\WatchmenE:\Downloads\Zion-treasures-of-the-wildSo it appears I can only ready files/folder that are NOT downloaded from the internet......Can it be that applications like uTorrent run under different user names ?Anyone ????CheeeeeeeeeeersJecepede (Aka El-Bumb)
