Remote assistance woes

Can anyone help me, I am having a right pain of a time trying to get remote assistance working on my home PCs.

There is a desktop PC running Windows XP Professional SP3 and a laptop running XP64 SP2.

I am trying to offer remote assistance from the desktop to the laptop. The Desktop is running Mcafee firewall and the laptop is using the Windows firewall but I have tried turning them both off to rule that out.

Both PCs are connected to the network and can see each other.

I have turned remote assistance on on both PCs via "My Computer" properties and via the group policy editor and I am logged into each PC with my local account which is a member of the administrators group on each PC.

Yet when I offer remote assistance from the desktop to the laptop it tells me the PC doesn't exist or is not available. If I try it the other way round it gets a little further but then tells me there was a problem and the request will need to be sent again.

Any help much appreciated.
