Hubs

Hey,

I have this scenario that I need to explain why two laptops fail to connect and how to resolve the issue. Can anybody offer any advice or links perhaps.

Your friend has connected one four port hub (A) to another four port Hub (B.). He has plugged one laptop into port 1 on Hub A and one Laptop into port 4 on Hub B. Ports 3 and 4 on Hub A are broken according to the user. The hubs are connected together by a straight through ethernet cable, and runs from port 2 on Hub A, to port 2 on Hub B. Your friend insists that the same port number must be used; he says that he read this somewhere. Both Hubs have an uplink or X capability on port 4.

Thanks for any help.

If you're using the crossover ports, there should be a button making the port a crossover port. The button should be depressed or (in) on one hub, and not depressed (out) on the other hub. Having both in crossover mode defeats the purpose of the crossover port.

If using a crossover cable, regular ports can be used.
