IE 8 no longer remembers UN/password for Hotmail

The title says it all. I also notice that when I close any web page, the pointer displays an hourglass next to it for about 5-10 seconds. This began when the password issue began. I have reinstalled IE 8, no help. I know that passwords are wiped when I use a software that clears that sort of form data, but I always can resubmit the Hotmail password info and it sticks. Now, it no longer does.

I've run rootkit virus scans, regular virus and spyware scans. Nothing has worked. Is there something else besides an OS reinstall that I can try? The fact that I have to resubmit email UN/PW each time is really no biggy, but I would like to know what is going on in any case.

I fixed it. Somehow 'Delete browsing history on exit' got enabled in Properties.

I don't think that passwords are kept in the Browsing History, but in a Cookie.

I see your point. But, actually, if an item in my browsing history is to link with the page that has my already-filled in UN/PW, then erasing that automatic link on exit would just bring me to an un-filled-in page next time.... which is what was happening. The hourglass I described in the first post would be the system erasing my visit.

Where is the information (UN/PW) stored when that information is saved? Is it on my machine or at the server? I think it's local, my machine. When I am prompted to save PWs at other webpages, the wording is: would you like Windows to save PW?
