Setting up a small server...

Hi all, I work at a small office (8 computers), we have a large canon copier.

I want the ability to network the copier to a small server where people can then save all their scans to and save files on personal folders that I would create for them. I would have this server setup to an ftp site so we can access the files and fodlers from the interent.

What OS do I need. We only have XP Pro licenses around here. Would I acutally need something like Windows 2000 Server or could I get away with using XP?

If it is only a file server you want, then a "workstation" OS like Windows XP will suffice. But as soon as you need more "server" capabilities like FTP or web server, then you are better off with a server OS.

I don't think Windows 2000 Server is still available; the Windows XP server version is Windows Server 2003, the Vista version is Windows Server 2008.

Using XP as a file server...

Could I setup folders for each of them, and they could access them with passwords of their own?

Also could I use terminal server to access the server so I dont have to give it a monitor and keyboard?
