Windows help

Recommended Posts

I am using windows xp professional with only one partition of 500 gb. Earlier it had an account with name warlock but due to some error windows stopped working properly. So i installed a new copy of windows xp professional without deleting the the previous copy(the one with warlock account). Now this windows has an account cooler, the problem is this new copy of windows shows only 320 gb partition instead of 500 gb coz i had 120 gb of data in the other account. I need to get that data back so is there any way i can get my data back? I have tried to acess that 120 gb part throush dos as well but it is of no use. Also even in dos the total hard drive nein shown is of 320 gb instead of 500gb. If anyone can suggest me a way to get back the data it will be a gr8 help.

Can you obtain the list or file icons of the files on your screen? If you can but then can't open them, you need to take "ownership" of the files. Microsoft explain how to it (AT THIS LINK).

If you can't even see the files, then you need to run a recovery utility first to show the hidden files that are still undamaged. There are some free ones available such as RECUVA.
