Using my WD Passport like a big flash drive, need help on a few things

Recommended Posts

Ok I had a WD Passport 500g that I was using with their WD Sync software. But I have read too many horror stories of their software wiping clean the passport when hookedup to new computers and other various things.

So I formatted the entire thing.

Now today I tried to drag and drop my main 500g HDD onto the Passport HDD through My Computer and it didnt actually copy the files, it just created a short cut to my main 500g on the Passport.

I have since went to the main HDD and copied and pasted and I am transfering everything that way, but why didnt drag n drop work?

Also, now that I have completely formatted the drive and am using it like a drag n drop flash drive more or less, how can I add a password protection on it?

And just because I formatted the passport, it should still encrypt with the 128 bit encryption right?

How do I continually update my Passport with just the NEW files that have been made since the last time I backed it up/drag n dropped? I dont want to drag n drop the main HDD again because it will then give me dupliates?
