Ping A Ping Ping?

Hi all. I'm working on a 3 computer network. XP(3). Now the problem is one of the computer's won't let itself be pinged. it can ping itself and the other two. the other two can ping eachother but not the first one.

What gives, i've done a bit of research online but found nothing.

can anyone help....

is this computer somehow set up to not let itself be pinged.

i put enties in the lmhost files to no avail.

also set up network on static IPs.

I'm stumpped.....

The router is a linksys on default mode so no problem there. I did notice all three computers were running some type of mcafee firewall, did't think much of it. you think that it's the culprit. bocking some port # that ping needs??..

also this computer won't allow lan connections...

found this on a description of the above named firewall software.

"For LAN users, there's a check box to trust all local network addresses automatically, a useful feature that should be more prominent."

"You can open two-way ports through the firewall for system services (port 80 for HTTP, for example) and set the firewall to accept or deny inbound ICMP ping requests "

I think this might be it. I'll have to check.....Thanks

Don't forget, XP also has it's own built in firewall. I assume from your posts that you didn't set these machines up. I would suggest that to solve any network connection issues, you should first disable ALL firewalls until connections are good and stable, then you can start to implement the security. At least if the network stops working, you have a pretty good idea of where the fault is.
