Can i change drive to boot from?

I recently installed the release candidate of windows 7 and i must say i am overwhelming impressed but i have one problem.

To see if it was any good i chose to install it on another harddrive, so now i have windows 7 on one drive and vista on another.

Problem is that i have to set the bios to boot from the vista drive but i badly want to remove that drive to both save power and because i dont use it at all except for booting up my windows 7.

I tried removing the drive and inserted the windows 7 disc and chose repair and then repair startup issues or whatever it was called.

Didnt work i just get that blinking _ on a black screen and it stays there.

Also tried copying all boot files from the vista drive without any luck?

Is there no solution to it other than reinstalling windows 7 without the vista drive inserted?

A release candidate doesn't necessarily have all the boot capabilities of the final version and, from what I remember from installing W7 myself, it needs a clean install on its own drive.

The thing to do is replace the drive containing Vista with a blank drive (your current non-working W7) and do a complete new install according to the instructions offered on the W7 RC website.

For your interest, I built a test machine for my granddaughter with removable hard drives in caddies to enable her to experiment with a number of different operating systems.

When you install Windows on a second drive or partition, then installer usually will automatically activate the Windows Boot Manager. I think by changing your BIOS' boot sequence, you may have deactivated the boot manager.

Try to set it back to the original sequence, and see if that reactivates the boot manager.
