Windows failed to load personal settings, now won't ever load user

Hi,

This morning I started up my computer (running Windows XP) and tried to log on. I'm a teacher, and my laptop is "named" CLANCY-MATHS. I logged on as cheinemann, and Windows brought up a box saying "loading personal settings..." then another saying that it had failed, so it loaded a generic desktop with a TOSHIBA wallpaper and all my settings and favourites etc. missing. This is so frustrating and it won't go back to normal. It has created a new folder in Users called cheinemann.CLANCY-MATHS which is what it's loading as my documents, when it should just be loading my normal folder of cheinemann.

How do I restore my username to my settings and my documents folder, or just reassign my username to the "cheinemann" folder instead of the automatically created "cheinemann.CLANCY-MATHS"?

First, is this a single computer, or a networked computer, and if networked, is it on a domain or a workgroup?

Next, open Control Panel | User Accounts, and check what accounts you have listed.

It has two domains - CLANCY-MATHS and CC3TALLIS. The former makes the computer standalone, and the latter is the school network which you can't connect to at home. It's the standalone one that had the problem.
