pgill23
Hi all... My name is Patrick. I recently started having a weird thing happen. When I return from hibernation, a svchost.exe process (DNS Client (dnscache)) is using like 98% of the CPU for a minute then ceases. I usually had a few things like update and AVG use some processor power but this is new. I'm wondering if I caught some kind of virus (antivirus scan showed nothing) or if it is some sort of new startup process. Any help and/or advice is much appreciated.P
Hb_Kai
I think it could be malware related. Use something like Malware Bytes and see if it finds anything. It could also be a problem with the hosts file being too large that it's giving your computer a hard time with DNS Lookups - but I don't know much about that stuff yet. Is this problem occurring only when you're using the internet?

pgill23
Ah crap - It started doing the same thing so I deleted the whole host file to see if that helped... it didn't. It's got to be something else. Any thoughts out there?
Hb_Kai
If the problem has came back after that, then maybe you should try scanning your PC for malware and see how that goes.Malware Bytes comes highly recommended on this forum usually so if you don't have anything to search for malware and would like to try searching, try Malware Bytes at the link below.Malware Bytes
