ahappycamper
I have a iOmega Prestige and for some reason it is not opening up on my Windows HP Pavilion ze2000. There is an ICON of it at the bottom right next ot the time every time I plug it in, so it seems to read correctly, but for some reason I can't open it to do anything. All I can do is eject it. I have used it on my Apple laptop before with no problem, I have uploaded many things onto it from my Apple laptop, but for some reason I cannot access it on the Windows. A friend of mine who is only a bit computer savvy told me that perhaps it is not FORMATTED to suit the Windows because it was only formatted to suit the Apple. According to the instructions booklet I own, in order to get the EHD(external hard drive) working on the Apple, I would have to reformat it to do so. I did no such thing. All I did was plug the thing in and it started saving my data and I could drag whatever into it. However, for the PC users, it states that "the drive icon should appear in My Computer or Windows Explorer". I did not see anything like this. -pops-
The file systems of Windows are different to those of Apple Mac machines and they are not directly compatible. Normally, Windows will "see" a Mac formatted hard drive but that is all it is able to do - they are unable to read each other. There is software to allow interchangeability but I am not at all familiar with it.Provided the drive appears in Drive Management, you should be able to reformat in NTFS which is the system that modern versions of Windows uses. If you do that, though, you lose the Mac usability.
