Auto-updating and Power scheme relationships

I have been thinking on this and find I could use some expert opinions on this...

Many of us auto-update system apps and files; such as keeping our MSE virus file up-to-date.

Many of us also use the power scheme feature which can tells the system if/when to turn off the monitor, hard drives and enter standby or hibernation modes.

My question is to understand the relationships between these features; ie, example....

If the auto-update of the MSE virus file is set, for example, to a Sunday @ 3am....

what state need the power scheme features be in, at that time, for the update to happen?

1. Must the monitor be on?

2. Must the hard drives be on?

3. Can the system be in standby?

4. Can the system be in hibernation? or,

5. Does "something" happen automatically to bring everything "alive" so that the update can happen?

Hmmmmm.

Thanks to all for your thoughts, Art
