mrclub Posted November 4, 2009 Report Share Posted November 4, 2009 as planned, i shrinked C: drive at Disk Management...bla bla bla...followed the steps from guides.now come to this part...i partition the new drive...then i click finish, it says'The dynamic disks are not supported by this operating system'then i go internet check up...found this >> 'dynamic disks are not available on portable computers'portable computers = laptop, netbook etc.i did the partitioning on my laptop ! now how ? can undo everything and redo ? mrclub Posted November 4, 2009 Author Report Share Posted November 4, 2009 this was what happened read guides on how to shrink and partition, so i followed the steps1) i right click Computer and choose 'Manage'2) i selected Disk Management from 'Manage'3) i right click C: drive and shrink it4) after shrinking, a new unallocated hard drive appeared5) i did what was on the guide to partition >> right click on the unallocated hard drive...give it a name (F: drive) and click finishwhen i click finish, it shows an error 'The dynamic disk are not supported by this operating system'i using vista on my laptop. it seems that dynamic disk is not available on vista laptops. any ideas how to solve the problems ?i guess i was using the partition manager built in by Windows so how ? i use the partition manager built in by Windows to shrink my C: drive and created an unallocated hard drive. can i use Easeus Partition Master to partition that unallocated hard drive for my other OS which i havent install ? EASEUS killed my laptop once so I would never recommended that again :)Anywho, if you were to try GParted, download the ISO from the openforge website and burn it to a disc, reboot your PC but boot via CD/DVD and this will run you in to the GUI where you should be able to manage your partitions to how you want to but, I don't see how the dynamic disk isn't compatible with Vista and for what reason. but apparently only Vista Ultimate and Enterprise are only compatible with them. EDIT:-If you saw what was here originally, just ignore it. I just read through your last post again. Create the partition without naming it F:. This can be done with the Vista built-in partition manager.And if you were using the partition manager found at right-click My Computer > Manage, then yes, that was the built-in one.
