Hb_Kai
Check device manager by going to Start > Run > type DEVMGMT.MSC and press enter, look for a webcam device and see if there are any yellow exclamation marks or red question marks, if there is either, right click and go to Properties.Check the manufacturer's website to see if there are compatibility issues with your OS or others.Check the manufacturer's website to see if there are any drivers which can be used to help the OS detecting your webcam and getting it to work properly. What operating system are you using and the manufacturer and model name of your webcam?I think, usually you will find that plug 'n' play devices are only plug 'n' play because they work on the drivers of the operating systems stated on the box. Check your operating system is mentioned on the box too.
