Epson Stylus Photo R285 'General error' and CIS System

Recommended Posts

Hello, I've just installed a CIS system for my Epson printer and seem to be getting errors whilst attempting to use it. I am informed that there appears to be a foreign object inside the printer and get two orange error lights.

My first question is where can I get a service manual for this printer from the internet for free, one which details how to dismantle the printer so that I can check everything appears to be okay? I've done rather a lot of searching on google for this information, with no luck.

My second is why am I hearing strange noises? The noises are sort of clicky and occur during the proceedure whereby the printer prepares itself to print and at startup. These noises always occur when the print carriage is over the waste ink pad.

Any ideas?

Thank you for your consideration.

I had an R285 - nothing but trouble..

Anyway, it may be the waste ink reservoir that is giving this message. You can reset it. Have a look at http://www.2manuals.com/reset_wip.php (scroll down the page to the section on resetting the ink counter)

Hello there, I just had a look for the reset program and it appears that it costs $12+? Is there nowhere this can be obtained for free? Because that's not really fair.

What you are supposed to do with the printer is to let an Epson engineer look at it. This is not feasible in your case as you have made unauthorised modifications to the printer by adding the CIS system. It may be that the CIS has caused the problem by flooding the waste ink pad.

I don't know of any free providers of Epson maintenance information/software.
