linduxed
I've got a Samba PDC stationed at office that people connect to. It has some shared folders and users' private folders.Connecting this network is a Netgear FSV338. VPN-clients connect with Netgears own IPSec VPN software.Connecting to the router from outside goes without a hitch, but to computers are visible in the "My Network Places" window, including the main server which is where the shares lie. When I try to change the client-computers domain to the one of the PDC (let's call the domain MYDOMAIN) I get the following error:A domain controller for the domain MYDOMAIN could not be contacted.Ensure that the domain name is typed correctly. If the name is correct, click details for troubleshooting.Clicking Details results in the following text:Note: This information is intended for a network administrator. If you are not your network's administrator, notify the administrator that you received this information, which has been recorded in the file C:\WINDOWS\debug\dcdiag.txt.The domain name MYDOMAIN might be a NetBIOS domain name. If this is the case, verify that the domain name is properly registered with WINS.If you are certain that the name is not a NetBIOS domain name, then the following information can help you troubleshoot your DNS configuration. The following error occurred when DNS was queried for the service location (SRV) resource record used to locate a domain controller for domain MYDOMAIN:The error was: "DNS name does not exist."(error code 0x0000232B RCODE_NAME_ERROR)The query was for the SRV record for _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.MYDOMAINCommon causes of this error include the following:- The DNS SRV record is not registered in DNS.- One or more of the following zones do not include delegation to its child zone:MYDOMAIN. (the root zone)For information about correcting this problem, click Help. The optimal situation would be to have the users be able to log into the domain over VPN in the same way they log in when they are plugged in with a cable. If needed, I can provide VPN settings, but I don't think those have been set up incorrectly, since I can (through the tunnel) access the router and ping all machines that I know are up.Thanks in advance. Gerard Dagnall
On the VPN client PC, try adding the domain controller's IP address as one of the PCs DNS addresses
