RAM not recognized by XP

Hi - Would really appreciate any help from the community regarding a small problem that I have.

My Compaq CQ50-215NR Laptop came installed with Vista on it.I needed to change to XP and recently installed XP-SP3 onto it after formatting the Hard Disk. Now the problem is that the system properties is showing only 1.75 GB of RAM available whereas the Laptop has 2GB on it.Earlier when Vista was the OS,it used to display that 2GB RAM was installed in system properties.I also re-checked with the BIOS and with a CPU monitoring Software ("CPU-Z") - both confirmed that 2GB indeed is installed. So thats pretty much the problem.Any thoughts/solutions to the same ?

Additionally -- someone suggested that since the laptop had a 256 MB GeForce 8200m IGP,this 256MB of RAM was shared [not 100% sure of this fact - product specs are here: http://is.gd/5cg20 ] and thus was being subtracted from the total 2GB leaving me with 1.75 GB ; And that this discrepancy in the display of available RAM is a result of the different way that Vista and XP choose to calculate the available RAM.Can anyone confirm if this explanation is accurate ?

So can any kind soul help me out with this ? Would really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance :)
