Niki
Here's what's up....I'm pretty sure I got a virus - I clicked on a program set-up that I had downloaded and my computer immediately shut down and when I tried to restart, it would show the Windows loading window for a second and then turn off, so Windows wasn't loading.Steps to Fix Problem:I got to the other partition and installed XP, via my installation CD and it took a little messing around to get that to load properly. When it did, I accessed any docs from the other side and saved and also got rid of the files I thought may have caused the problem. Then, I ran a complete virus scan, using AVG. It found only one file with a trojan and deleted it.I thought maybe I could continue working on that side, but when I would try to reboot, Windows wouldn't load at all again! After trying the bootcfg (rebuild, fixboot, etc.) and none of them working, I decided to just reformat, as there was nothing on there that I really needed to save anymore. I had backed it all up.I deleted all partitions and then re-partitioned (I have a 300gb drive) and chose 'Format using the NTFS file system'. It then did it's loading thing and completed and did a reboot, only to go to the blue screen of death. It's not loading Windows at all. Not sure what is wrong or what the next step should be?Some help would be awesome, as I'm inbetween jobs and trying to do this one my own, without paying someone else. Thanks for any help/advice!-Niki

MANEMAN
Hi Niki, Welcome.A few things come to mind. "I deleted all partitions and then re-partitioned"I obviously dont know how or what you partitioned with, but is the partition you have installed the O/S on set as "Active" ?(I've been caught as many times with that, as I have leaving a floppy in the drive. )From your first paragraph it would seem you had problems. You have tried to fix it and it is still troublesome. The dreaded "Blue Screen" can many times be caused by faulty RAM (Memory Sticks)Primary installation relies quite heavily on storing stuff in RAM, and drawing stuff from RAM. This could be giving you corrupt files in your nice new installation, and could well have been the problem you mentioned in the first paragraph.I think I would be going for RAM as the culprit here. You can find a lot of free testers if you look here: http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&s...p;oq=ram+testerGood luck with your project. ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
Apologies Pat, I didn't see you come in there. No problem - we posted at almost the same time. (Are you up early, or late?)... is the partition you have installed the O/S on set as "Active" ?Also, is it a Primary partition?
