Windows do not boot from CD

Recommended Posts

Litle bit detailed description.

System do not boot from CD (Windows XP Pro).

1. CD do not boot and get error - CD older than System.

I boot CD from previous Windows XP System an format second (D) drive.

2. I start format first © drive and unawares remove CD.

Now I get only grey screen.

My old PC have 2 HDD drives.

I have disabled boot from all others drives except CD (PC have only CD & CD RW).

Please help if can!

Thanks!

Hi again.

Double check the boot sequence in bios.

Make sure the CD is unscratched and without fingerprints or mess on it.

Copy the data off of present XP CD with something like *** Unstoppable Copier *** and re-write /re-burn yourself a new CD to either "+" or "-" format Disks (Or both just in case their is a read problem with the drives)

I've found Unstoppable Copier very useful for similar situations.

Make sure both of your drives are reading o.k.

If you have a floppy drive, load XP by means of floppy disks. ( http://freepctech.com/pc/002/files010.shtml )

Make sure that your RAM is good in this old machine and able to retain info from installation disk.

Make sure that the HDD you are trying to load XP onto has been partitioned, formatted, and set active.

John.

Thanks, MANEMAN!

Impossible for me!

1&1/2 days I have test Your instructions and more any others.

Jast it is USB Kayboard fault!

PC do not listen some USB Kayboard kays like ENTER and SPACE.

I connect "normal" Kayboard an all ok!

Thanks!
