kerova Posted February 23, 2010 Report Share Posted February 23, 2010 Hello everybody, Last night I decided to reinstall windows on this laptop so I did what I had done dozens of times before. INserted the CD, pressed some keys for the pc to recognize it and so forth. Although it seemed to have started to go down the right path I firstly observed that I wasnt offered to select the partition where I wanted to install. However, it was looking like it was doing well, showing the typical screen with all the stages that get ticked as it goes. As it came to the first reboot, rather than going back to the list of stages and march on, it got stuck at a DOS screen which offered me to install Windows as one option and start win XP as the other. OF course, I tryied to get it to resume the installation but all it did was it stayed at a black screen, the pointer blinking. That is right now how things are with this pc. By default, it goes to the installation option which ends up in that no way out screen. However, if i select the start xp option it logs into my old windows and functions as usual. I have never been unable to install windows so Im at a complete lost now. Can anybody suggest a more efficient was to force the installation please?!? (Unlike Windows 9x, where a repair install was frequently required.)Why do you want to reinstall Windows XP? (Just curious.)Why not just restore from a backup when everything was working fine? (Just curious.)Why not just restore from a backup when everything was working fine?Because it hasnt worked fine for a long time, a lost track of when it last did and have had no so good experiences with the back up method. I guess its the erosive action of viruses. Either way, I still should be able to reinstall with the CD and I can't which is very frustrating! Is it different with your model?If you're re-installing from a "recovery" disk rather than a Microsoft version of XP, it may be better to delete the rubbish that has accumulated on the drive before doing the install.
