Windows Network Sharing Service Error Streaming Video

I have a Windows 7 Home Premium running on a 64 bit Intel PC. I am attempting to use the Windows Media Player as a media server to stream music and video to a D-Link DSM-520 device which is connected to my TV/stereo. Streaming music and a few videos works just fine. However for the majority of my avi files I am unable to stream them and I get errors in the Windows system log (all the examples below were trying to stream an avi file):

The Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service cannot process the request for URI 'http://192.168.1.108:10243/WMPNSSv4/1502456120/ezg4MkIxRTQ1LTk1MzgtNENFMC05NzdDLTA0QjJBNkRCRDI4MX0uMC5GNjRGNTIzMw.mpg?formatID=31' from IP address '192.168.1.101' due to error '0xc00d1967'.

The Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service cannot process the request for URI 'http://192.168.1.108:10243/WMPNSSv4/1502456120/e0RCMzU3RUY1LTRFN0MtNEMzQS04OEU2LTBGRjk0RTE1Q0E2Qn0uMC42QTdDNTVDQQ.mpg?formatID=33' from IP address '192.168.1.101' due to error '0xc00d1967'.

I cannot find an explanation of the error anywhere. I did note that the error message is for an mpg file but I was attempting to play an avi file - I am 100% sure of that. I've noticed with the errors that I get in the Windows system log they all have the wrong file extension?? So the question is - was the streaming device given the wrong information by the Windows network sharing service, or did the stream device fumble the data it was given (did he fall or was he pushed)?

I don't enough about Windows media streaming protocol to know which side generates the URI and I am loath to hook up a network sniffer to start looking at packets... The D-Link support forum has not been able to help.
