Tangor Posted March 16, 2010 Report Share Posted March 16, 2010 I have a Dell Studio Slim 540s. It is dual boot with Linux, but I mostly use it for Windows Vista (Home Premium). I would like to be able to use "wake on lan". When I boot the computer to the Grub window, then press "c" and then "halt", after that I am able to use Wake on lan. I send a magic packet from my router and the computer's power turns on. Thus, I conclude that the BIOS is set up correctly, and that the magic packet I have sent is also correct.However, when I boot to Windows Vista then shut down the computer, "wake on lan" does not work any more. I have set up the network card to "Allow this device to wake the computer", I have updated the network card's driver to the latest edition, and I have tried all the combinations under "Advanced" in the "Realtek PCIe Family Controller Properties" that I could think of. I have also spent quite a bit of time searching for solutions to this problem with Google. However, I am stumped.Why is it that I cannot use wake on lan after booting and shutting down Windows Vista, and is it possible to fix this problem?
