User Account Installation

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm new here. I have windows 7 enterprise, with accounts of admin and normal user. The problem is i cannot install or run certain executable files as a normal user but when logging in as admin, i'm able to do so. I've changed the local group policy to always install with elevated privileges for both computer configuration and user configuration folders but the comp will still prompt for admin password in order to proceed. So, I tried to disable uac, but then it says that it needs administrator rights to install the software. Now, i cannot understand why even after i changed the local group policy, i still need to key in admin password in order to install software when logged as normal user. Is there other settings that are required? or do windows 7 allow normal user without admin right to install software? How do i elevate the right of normal user? Thanks!

This should give you an idea of what is and isn't normally available with the different account types.

I always assumed that admin. rights were necessary to make alterations to the system and a "normal user" was just that - a user, not a changer.
