Quinn Posted March 27, 2010 Report Share Posted March 27, 2010 I don't know if others are experiencing this problem, or to what degree, but I hope someone has an answer...I have an older Dell desktop computer, 1GB Ram, running Windows XP Professional. The machine had no problem navigating the internet on IE7 or IE8 after that update was installed, and internet speed as satisfactory. Sometime around mid-March, after some automatic updates, the machine is slower and is having a very hard time navigating the internet. If the internet works at all, it is extremely slow and locks up on me before too long. Otherwise, the pages show that they are loading but never show anything but a blank white screen. I have tried clearing the cache, deleting temp files, reverting back to IE7, and nothing makes a difference.My younger brother has a Dell Desktop (2 years newer than mine), 2GB Ram, Windows XP Home Edition, IE8, and is having the same exact problems.My mother also has a Dell desktop (even newer than my brother's), 2GB Ram, Windows XP Home Edition, IE8, and is also having the exact same problems that I am. She spoke to a co-worker who is...you guessed it...having the same exact issues with the same operating system.Is anyone else having this problem? My wife's laptop has Windows Vista, and the internet works just fine on it.Not to be a conspiracy theorist, but is Microsoft "zapping" XP computers from the internet to make people buy newer software or something? I went on their website to contact them, but they want $49 to give me an answer and I don't see the need to pay them to tell me to upgrade to Windows 7 or something like that.Thanks for any help you can offer! -pops- Posted March 27, 2010 Report Share Posted March 27, 2010 You didn't happen to have an email regarding an update to Facebook just before these effects showed themselves, did you?This may seen an odd question but there was a rogue email circulating about the middle of March which, if opened, caused similar effects to those you are experiencing - and sometimes worse.Are you able to do a System Restore to a time before this happened or, better, a restore from you backup?
