hi new to fourm. not new to computers though. i have a machine with xp on it and rebuilt it with new motherboard, ram, processor and all. i want windows 7 on there. went to install it and all went fine. win7 is working great. 2 problem occour the first one is the simple one. i have 2 computers in the house one new came with 7 has the gadget bar across the top of the screen, the new install one don't how do i get that on there. the other problem is i had to change the bios boot order to boot from cd first to get it installed. well when the computer goes to sleep windows does not come back on when the mouse is moved or keyboard is used. it just goes to a blank screen. i changed the boot order back to c drive first and still the same thing. when i put the cd in it boots fine and works fine. even with the cd out it works untill it goes to sleep. when it is off for a while and i come back it does not reload windows or return to the windows operating system. also when i hard kill the machine the mouse and keyboard are still powered on. when i start, shutdown, off they turn off. i have no idea what to do next please somebody tell me what to do. this is even confusing the it director where i work and he has been able to answer everything i have ever had problems with. thanks in advance.

update, my kids have kicked the power cord and unpluged the computer several times and everytime i have rebooted it correctly to fix the issue of the mouse not working from the unplug or what ever it has booted fine. i have decided to leave the power scheme to always on though to avoid the sleep return issue. still any help or comments may be helpful.

I don't think there is a gadget bar in Windows 7 like there was in Vista. In Windows 7 you can drag and drop gadgets to anywhere on the screen.

If perhaps you mean the task bar - you can place this on the side, top or bottom of the screen.

Right click on the taskbar - untick "lock the taskbar", left click on the taskbar and drag it to the top or side.

When happy with the position, right click on it and tick "lock the taskbar"

thanks for that but it is not the task bar i am in question of. i know about that it has the start menu and clock and stuff on it, this is a icon dock that is in the top of the screen has internet icon shortcuts and computer shortcuts to it. it can be turned off by undocking it but i don't know where to go to get it back, i have 2 computers using w7 and i want it on both. thanks anyway.

  • 4 weeks later...

hi all, i got my second pc fixed again. turns out it was the power supply not giving enough power to wake the pc up from sleep. that is replaced after 3 tries to fix the mother board. all is good now, now all i have to do is activate and validate my copy of windows that has timed out any suggestions.
