BuckshotPA Posted April 23, 2010 Report Share Posted April 23, 2010 I have a laptop that will need a larger hard drive in order to handle an upgrade to Windows 7 (and installation of some other software). Currently running a Dell-installed version of Vista Home. Does Microsoft have something in place that will allow me to purchase the Windows 7 upgrade (probably Home) and install it on the new, blank hard drive? How will it determine that I'm legitimately upgrading without seeing the old installation? AlanHo Posted April 23, 2010 Report Share Posted April 23, 2010 Have you first checked that your motherboard, CPU and RAM are suitable for Windows 7.Check with the MS Win7 Advisor - Download from here.It is possible to install Windows 7 using upgrade media - I did it on our two computers.For the full procedure - Click HereThe registry tweak method detailed in the advice did not work for me and instead I used the double install method which worked fine.
