Or what number should I change it to?What exactly does virtual ram do?On another note...are there any good programs to speed up your computer such as disk clean, reg cleaner, stuff like that? ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
Your computer has a certain amount of physical RAM; how much does yours have?Windows and all running programs are loaded into RAM, and may use additional memory to store information. When a program is inactive for a certain period of time, and/or your physical memory gets full, then the least active contents is paged out to the virtual memory on disk, also called the page file. How much virtual memory you need depends on the applications you are running, but Microsoft's official recommendation is to start with 1.5 times the installed physical RAM. Windows will notify you and increase the virtual memory if it's insufficientSpecifying too much virtual memory will not improve your computer's performance in any way. It may even decrease if the page file is hugely fragmented.General advice re speeding up your computer is not easy; it takes some specific knowledge on your environment to give specific advice. However, trimming unnecessary startup programs is always a good start. An easy tool for this is Startup Inspector.P.S. avoid so-called "registry cleaners" - they will not improve anything, but in the worst case make your computer unusable.
