n2xlr8n
I've been experiencing problems with a Seagate FreeAgent 500GB external drive (WinXP Pro). I started CHKDSK /R yesterday, and it went through the first three phases relatively quickly. I know it takes a long time for phases four and five, but it's been on phase four now for 24 hours and still reads "0 percent completed." At this rate, it will take more than three months to finish phase four. I've read that interrupting this phase may cause additional harm to the drive, so I'm hesitant to interfere. Does anyone know how long I can expect phase four and five to take on a drive this size? Are there options for disk repair other than CHKDSK? Thanks!
