cobaltblue Posted May 5, 2010 Report Share Posted May 5, 2010 I've noticed, since installing Win7, that both of my data HDs (2 new Western Digital/SATA-3 drives), show a delay of about 8-10 secs., before I can create a file or folder. If I've done this shortly before, there's no delay. I haven't timed how long I can wait to see no delay in response. Since both data drives show this delay, I figured it was in the operating system. So I set the drives to never power down, but this had no effect on the issue. So I permitted indexing for the drives, yet this shows no effect either, on the delay.Neither drive behaved this way under WinXP.Anyone have a clue why Win 7 is creating this delayed response? jimv7 Posted May 5, 2010 Report Share Posted May 5, 2010 Check the power settings for the drives, it sounds as if win 7 is powering the drives down to standby whilst not in use.
