Custom Install

Recommended Posts

I'm looking to install win7 operating system on it's own partition and all the rest on another. That is: all the 'My Documents' etc. which are normally locked to the same area as the system files

I seem to remember that this is possible with XP having read on another forum many moons ago ( though now for the life of me I cannot remember the forum concerned)

Is there kind soul out there that can either help or point me in the right direction.

Thanks in advance

Install Windows 7 in your C: drive

Create a new partition D:

In D: create new folders titled My Documents, My Music, My Videos, Favorites, etc

To relocate each system data file to drive D :-

Right click on the Documents folder on C:

Click on Properties

Click location tab

Click move

Browse to D: Documents

Click Select Folder - new window opens

Click Apply

Message appears asking "Do you want to move all the files from the old location to the new location" Click Yes

New window opens

Click OK

Relocate Music, Pictures, Favorites (for IE) & Videos folders by same method.
