reason why my old pc died?

Recommended Posts

Heres the circumstances surrounding how my old pc died: I went to push the power switch and then I saw some sparks around the switch area and then it wouldn’t turn on no more with the switch pressing. At first I suspected the power switchs broken. So I went to local service center and they told me that could be dust that cause the sparks. I have been leaving the front hood opened.

I suspect the motherboard could be broken as well cuz I follow the techicans advice about testing the power switch by cutting the switch wires and touching the metal wires with each other and/or touching the power switch spikes with metal to turn pc on. Neither these methods worked.

This ever happened to anyone before? Could dust have a big impact to sparking for pc and killing it? Could overuse be a factor too? I mean it may be kinda old I guess, it was running windows xp.

I would bet money on your power supply. there are ways posted on web that you could test it (take it out first, then make a small jumper wire, etc. look it up

edit: you also didn't need to cut anything. you could have just jumped the 2 wires at the switch with a wire or clip, etc
