-pops- Posted June 7, 2010 Report Share Posted June 7, 2010 The salient point to me is the term "Optional" and the fact that Microsoft are, yet again, interfering with other manufacturers updates and drivers.I work on the well tried philosophy of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". I've had to look at so many machines in the past that have been damaged by these unnecessary and inappropriate updates issued by companies (especially MS) who, under the pretext of offering help, do exactly the opposite. gordythegouge Posted June 7, 2010 Author Report Share Posted June 7, 2010 In retrospect....probably not wise to have downloaded and installed it in the first place...and even more stupid of me to go through the long-winded process of elimination to identify this download as the problem, but foolishly, I didn't realise that Microsoft would offer me an inappropriate download that could crash the PC completely!! Luckily, this time, I only lost 6 weeks worth of e-mails as my photos were still on my camera but it could have been worse. I re-installed with Acronis True Image 2010, not without teething troubles either, as the bootable disk I had created only got so far and then the screen froze, I had to do a recover from the original software supplied with the PC and then install Acronis and subsequently recover my files.A lot of bother for a little upgrade!Anyway... thanks for the advice.Gordy Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
