swes Posted June 11, 2010 Report Share Posted June 11, 2010 Hi,I have vista home on my l/top and i am desperate for help....Ok so the program has gone wrong.Firstly the sound decided to stop and then the desktop bar went grey,Then i had a pop up saying that the windows service was not working,I want to try to reinstall all so having backed up my files in safe mode i now want to do this.Is there somthing stating that i have to have to select dvd/cd as first choice of boot up in the bios screen.And is there anything else i have to do IM GETTING TO THE POINT I WANT TO SHUT MY LAP TOP BACKWARDS. ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb Posted June 11, 2010 Report Share Posted June 11, 2010 Welcome to the Windows Forum.First of all, take a deep breath (or two) and calm down...There is rarely a real reason for modern Windows systems to be reinstalled.A question: do you have antivirus software, is it up-to-date, have you recently run a full scan, and is your system clean?If the above is Yes, have you tried a System Restore?Either way, if you really need to reinstall Windows, someone will help you. swes Posted June 11, 2010 Author Report Share Posted June 11, 2010 Hi thanks for getting back yes i have tried all options but cant seem to get any joy,Do i use the product recovery disc to reinstall vista??. AlanHo Posted June 11, 2010 Report Share Posted June 11, 2010 I have a 3 year old Toshiba Satellite laptop.To reinstall Vista I would be required to insert the recovery disk in the DVD drive and turn on the computer whilst holding down the F12 key.I would then get a menu appear asking which disc to boot from and would select the DVD drive rather than the hard drive.I used to have a Dell - on that laptop I think I had to set the BIOS to boot first from the DVD - not certain about that - it was so long ago.It may be that each manufacturer has their own method.
